Our Monday Spotlight is shining brightly on Ruth S. Collins!

Ruth has enjoyed drawing and painting since a very young age. Her skills flourished as she grew up and went on to earn a BA in Art from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Her current favorite type of media is working with acrylics and her subjects range from more formal portraits to random locations found during an otherwise ordinary day. Ruth enjoys finding inspiration from our local area due to the wide variety of colors, textures, and fond memories collected from places close to her heart.

When she is without a brush in hand, Ruth has been volunteering for the last five-plus years with the “Home Delivered Meals” program (formerly known as Meals on Wheels). After signing up with the Department of Aging, Ruth selected a route in Lexington Park South, which takes her down as far as Scotland during her travels. On a typical day, she picks up nutritious meals at 11 AM and is finished with her route almost three hours later, sometimes delivering as many as 15 meals a day. Her clients include people of diverse backgrounds and a wide variety of personalities, every day is different! Although Ruth’s volunteer work has been temporarily on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic she hopes to be back soon, delivering kindness and healthy meals to many of our neighbors in need.

Mrs. Collins is also an active member of the North End Gallery in Leonardtown (www.northendgallery.com), a co-op of amazing artists located in the heart of Downtown Leonardtown in St. Mary’s County. Learn more about our featured artist and view her work at: www.ruthscollins.com.

Shine on Ruth, thank you for sharing your talents with our community in so many different ways!
