Our Monday Spotlight is shining brightly on art instructor Rachel Naber-Thomas!

Rachel has a great love for art, teaching, and helping our community!

During her former job working for the Niagara Falls Gazette, Rachel was encouraged by her co-workers to pursue her true calling and subsequently earned a Master of Science degree in Teaching to complement her Bachelor of Photography degree. Rachel has been a licensed teacher for 17 years now and has very much enjoyed all aspects of her career.

Currently working at Leonardtown High School as an instructor for Crafts 1&2, Commercial Art (Adobe Creative Suite and digital art) and Art 1, Rachel has also launched the “Hands-On Art Lab” from her home studio in Hollywood, MD.

The Hands-On Art Lab features innovative art tutoring and workshops for elementary school children plus adults of all ages through private lessons, small group workshops, and team-building experiences.

Usually held at her studio and other locations within the tri-county area, Rachel has gone virtual given the current pandemic situation. She has skillfully redesigned her classes for a seamless transition to online platforms, including an exciting four-week Summer Art Club offered to both children and adults.

Also of importance for our featured artist is a strong desire to give back to the community. A limited-space “Colored Pencil Workshop – Drawing Cartoon Animals” small group workshop will be held on Saturday, June 13th from 1 to 2:30 PM for tweens, teens, and adults with a portion of the $25 registration fee to be donated to a local charitable cause.

Offered on Rachel’s website are free tutorials and mini-lessons for viewing at any time, yet another kind contribution!

Shine on Rachel Naber – thank you for sharing your talents and helping our community!
