Our Monday Spotlight is shining brightly on Carrie Patterson!

A little background: Ms. Patterson is a Professor of Art at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, former owner of Yellow Door Art Studios, founder of thegesso.com (the art resource for creative teens), and founder of theyellowline.com (art curriculum for K-12 instruction).

She is also the author of the Great Course Lecture Series How to See: Visual Literacy Skills, produced by the Teaching Company in 2019. Carrie earned a BFA in Studio Art from James Madison University and an MFA in painting from The University of Pennsylvania.

Including all of the awesomeness above, we have selected Carrie as our Featured Artist for her efforts to share the arts and creativity with others during these difficult times. Ms. Patterson has stepped up to develop and offer a series of free online courses on YouTube, these lessons are intended for children ages 6 through 14 but anyone can join in!

We tried them out and have really enjoyed drawing bunnies over the last few lessons with Carrie, just link here and you can too: https://youtu.be/tUjISE9m3dY.

All you need is pencils and paper, so simple and easy! We were guided us through paths of how to do a blind contour, a modified contour, focus on ovals, and much more, all at no charge due to the generosity of the Yellow Line Studio.

We are very much looking forward to future lessons and just wanted to say thank you to our featured artist for your dedication and sharing your talents with others, shine on Carrie Patterson!
