St. Mary’s College Men’s Lacrosse Selected Fourth in CAC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team was selected fourth in the 2020 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll, the league announced today (Feb. 4). 

Salisbury was unanimously voted atop the 2020 Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll, receiving five first-place votes and 25 points in a vote among the conference head coaches. The Sea Gulls have advanced to at least the national semifinal round each of the last four seasons, including back-to-back titles in 2016 and 2017.

York ranked second in the poll with 20 points and received the final first-place vote, followed by Christopher Newport (18), St. Mary’s College (10) and Southern Virginia (9) in third through fifth, respectively. Mary Washington rounded out the contingent in sixth place with eight points. 

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team is coming off their first winning season since 2013 when they finished the 2019 campaign with a 10-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in CAC play. In addition, the Seahawks made history last season when they defeated Washington College for their first victory over the Shoremen in program history. The Seahawks will be led by fifth-year head coach Jason Childs

The Seahawks will open up their season this Saturday (Feb. 8) at home when they host Randolph at 2:00 p.m. Other non-conference foes the Seahawks will take on this year include Dickinson (Feb. 15), Elizabethtown (Feb. 22), Catholic (Feb. 29), Washington College (Mar. 4), Eastern (Mar. 7), Randolph-Macon (Mar. 11), McDaniel (Mar. 14), Whittier (Mar. 18), Elmhurst (Mar. 21), and Marymount (Mar. 25). St. Mary’s College will compete against Whittier and Elmhurst in the warm weather of Los Angeles, California. CAC play opens up on Apr. 4 when the Seahawks travel to Mary Washington for a 3:30 p.m. contest. In addition, the Seahawks will host Southern Virginia on Apr. 18 at 4:00 p.m. for Spring Break-a-Sweat.

The CAC Tournament will feature six teams this spring with the top two seeds receiving a bye, beginning with the first round on Saturday, Apr. 25 and culminating with the championship game on Saturday, May 2.

Notable Statistics: Jude Brown: 16th in the CAC in points with 60 (led team), sixth in the CAC in assists with 33 (led team); Erich Wuesthoff: led team with 32 goals; Luke McWright: returning leader on the team in ground balls with 50; Tommy Rinder: returning leader on the team in ground balls with 50, led team in caused turnovers with 22; Alex Pfaff: led team in caused turnovers with 22.
