News Release, Charles County Public Schools

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is looking for volunteers interested in helping with VEX Robotics events. Dates and events include a Dec. 14 robotics scrimmage, the Feb. 1 middle school competition, and the Feb. 15 high school competition. All events are set to take place at Theodore G. Davis Middle School in Waldorf.

As part of the VEX Robotics program students design and build a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts are incorporated into the program. Students learn lifelong skills such as teamwork and leadership. Tournaments are held at the regional, state and national levels and culminate at the VEX Robotics World Championship held annually in the spring.

Interested volunteers can sign up by completing an online application. There is one application per each event, as volunteer shifts and needs differ by the event. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and will receive lunch, training and a volunteer certificate. Volunteer duties do not include the direct supervision of children. Interested volunteers do not need to complete the CCPS volunteer screening process.
