KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Senior Khalid Balogun and junior Roshawn Panton each gained a spot on the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-South Atlantic Region Team, the organization announced today (Dec. 2).
Balogun was selected to the First Team for the second consecutive season and has been named to the All-Region Team in all four years of his Seahawk career. Panton landed on the Second Team for his first All-Region nod. To date, St. Mary’s College has notched 23 all-region awards by 11 different players.
Balogun closed out his impressive Seahawk career as a four-time all-conference pick, earning first-team awards each of the last three seasons. In addition, Balogun was named the CAC Rookie of the Year in 2016 to go along with his Offensive Player of the Year award that he earned this season.
The 6-4 forward led the team and the CAC in points with 36, and goals with 16. The Bowie, Maryland native was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week three times this season. Over his four-year career, Balogun has recorded 93 points, 37 goals, 19 assists, and five game-winning goals. Lastly, Balogun grabbed the second-ever All-America honor for the St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s soccer program last season and is eligible for the prestigious award once again with his First Team All-South Atlantic Region selection this year.
Panton proved to be a dangerous scoring threat for the Seahawk offense and was selected to his first All-Region team and second-straight All-CAC First Team. The 5-7 forward notched 10 goals and two assists for a total of 22 points. His total in points was third on the team and third in the CAC, while his mark in goals was second on the team and the conference. The Bowie, Maryland native was also named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28.
The Seahawks finished their 2019 campaign with a 12-6-2 (5-4-1 CAC) overall record for their fourth consecutive 10-win season and earned the third seed in the 2019 CAC Tournament.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
