News Release, The Arc of Southern Maryland
The Arc Southern Maryland is joining the Global GivingTuesday Movement, taking place on December 3rd. It is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Every year, on GivingTuesday, millions of people across the globe (almost 60 countries) mobilize to show up, give back, and change their communities. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet.
“We want to provide our community with a glimpse of what their donation can do. We want them to see the impact that they can have, right here at home” according to The Arc Southern Maryland. We are taking it a step further this year and throughout November and December, we will be showcasing the needs that we have as an agency. Life-changing needs. Southern Maryland is a generous community and we know the impact that this movement will be the start of something far greater and will far-reaching. We are excited to see what we can do as a community.
This year focused projects are funding an awning for the front of our building to protect our clients from the elements, providing Christmas Eve meals to some of the residential homes and funding Abuse/Neglect training to our self-advocates.
Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s Board of County Commissioners are all issuing proclamations recognizing December 3rd, 2019 as Giving Tuesday. The Arc Southern Maryland will be in attendance at each of the BOCC meetings on November 19, 2019, to receive the proclamations.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
