Four Seahawks Land on All-CAC Second Team

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey team picked up four spots on the 2019 All-Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Team, the league announced today (Nov. 7). Sophie CarlsonKelbey EgerlandCelina Kaufman, and Meghan Ronan all earned Second Team honors.

Carlson is garnering her first-ever all-conference honor after starting all 18 games for the Seahawks this season. She helped St. Mary’s College to a 0.78 goals-against average, good for second in the conference, and eight shutouts. The Churchville, Maryland native also contributed offensively with three goals for a total of six points. The sophomore defender was also named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

Egerland is also picking up her first all-conference award after the 5-5 goalkeeper led a stellar defensive unit. The Bel Air, Maryland native finished the season with 45 saves, a 77.6 save percentage, a 0.79 goals-against average, and only allowed 13 goals all season. Her marks in save percentage, goals-against average, and goals allowed come in at second in the CAC. In addition, Egerland was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.

Kaufman was another Seahawk who was awarded all-conference honors for the first time due to an impressive rookie campaign. The first-year forward finished the season with 11 goals and one assist for a total of 23 points. Her mark in goals led the Seahawks and was good for third in the conference, while her total in points came in at second on the team. The Queenstown, Maryland native was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.

Ronan was selected to the Second Team for the second consecutive season. The 5-5 midfielder played a pivotal role in the success of the Seahawks season, finishing the year with 10 goals and nine assists for a total of 29 points. Her mark in points led the team and was third in the conference. Ronan also led the team with her nine assists and was second with her total in goals. The Odenton, Maryland native was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23.

St. Mary’s College finished the season with a program-high 13 wins, totaling an overall record of 13-5 (2-3 CAC) and earning the No. 3 seed in the 2019 CAC Tournament.
