Calvert County:

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Oct. 29, 2019 – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announces county offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, in observance of Veterans Day. In addition:

  • County senior centers will be closed and Meals on Wheels will not be delivered. However, participants will be provided with shelf-stable meals in advance.
  • There will be no county bus service Monday, Nov. 11. Regular service will resume on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
  • Calvert Library locations will be closed Monday, Nov. 11. Online services and electronic checkouts will be available.
  • All community centers will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11.
  • All recreation parks including Dunkirk, Hallowing Point, and Cove Point parks will be open with normal hours.
  • The Appeal Solid Waste Facility, including the landfill and transfer station, and all county customer convenience centers will be open with normal operating hours.
  • The Water & Sewerage billing and customer service office and the Solomons Septage Receiving Facility will be closed Monday, Nov. 11. On-call crews will be available for water and sewer service emergencies only at 410-535-3491.
  • Chesapeake Hills Golf Course will be open Monday, Nov. 11, with normal hours.
  • The Calvert Marine Museum will be open Monday, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The museum store will also be open from 10:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
  • The Solomons Visitor Center, located in the Calvert Marine Museum, will be closed Monday, Nov. 11. Winter hours are Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Kings Landing Park will be open Monday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Flag Ponds Nature Park will be open Monday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
  • Battle Creek Cypress Swamp will be closed and remain closed through spring while undergoing renovations to the nature center.
  • Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center will be open with normal operating hours Monday, Nov. 11.
  • Breezy Point Beach & Campground will close for the season beginning Nov. 1.
  • The Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter and Animal Control Division will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11.

Charles County:

The County Administrator wishes to remind residents of changes to normal operating schedules for the month of November.  All offices, facilities, and services not listed will be operating their normal hours.

Monday, Nov. 11 (Veterans’ Day)

  • All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville are closed.
  • The Nanjemoy Community Center and all senior centers are closed.
  • All indoor pools will be open 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. for open swim (Lackey, Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, and North Point).
  • The Waldorf Senior and Recreational Center will be open 9 a.m. -9 p.m. for recreation activities only.
  • VanGO last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 6 p.m. on the 301 Connector, Berry Road, Brandywine Connector, Pinefield, Indian Head, St. Charles A, St. Charles B, and St. Charles C.  The last departures from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 5:30 p.m. on Business A, Business B, and Charlotte Hall.  The last departure from the Waldorf transfer point will be at 6:30 p.m. for St. Charles D.  The last departures from the La Plata transfer point will be at 6:30 p.m. on the 301 Connector.  The last departures from the La Plata transfer point will be at 5:30 for Bryans Road, La Plata and Nanjemoy.  The last departure from the La Plata transfer point for Newburg will be at 4:30 p.m.
  • Charles County Health Department is closed.
  • Charles County Public Library (All branches) is closed.

Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving Day)

  • All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville are closed.
  • The Nanjemoy Community Center, The Waldorf Senior, and Recreational Center, all senior centers, Port Tobacco Recreation Center, Elite Gymnastics, indoor pools, and all school-based community centers are closed.
  • VanGO services will not be operating.
  • The Charles County Landfill and Recycling Center on Billingsley Road in Waldorf and the Pisgah Recycling Center on Route 425 in Pisgah are closed.
  • Curbside recycling will be delayed one day, Thursday pickup will take place on Friday.
  • The Crain Memorial Welcome Center is closed.
  • White Plains Golf Course is closed.
  • Port Tobacco Historic Village is closed.
  • Charles County Health Department is closed.
  • Charles County Public Library (All branches) is closed.
  • Charles County Skate Park is closed

Friday, Nov. 29 (Day after Thanksgiving)

  • All Charles County Government offices and the Tri-County Animal Shelter in Hughesville are closed.
  • The Nanjemoy Community Center, all senior centers, and all school-based community centers are closed.
  • All indoor pools will be open 1 p.m. – 8 p.m. for open swim (Lackey, Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, and North Point).
  • The Waldorf Senior and Recreational Center will be open 9 a.m. -9 p.m. for recreation activities only.
  • Curbside recycling will be delayed one day.  Friday pickup will take place on Saturday.
  • Charles County Health Department is closed.
  • Charles County Public Library (All branches) is closed.

St. Mary’s County:

Leonardtown, MD – All St. Mary’s County Government administrative offices will be closed Monday, November 11, 2019, in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday. Offices will reopen for normal business hours Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

  • The St. Andrews Landfill, the six Convenience Centers and St. Mary’s Transit System (STS) will be open for normal business hours on Monday, November 11.
  • All Convenience Centers and STS will be open for their normal business hours on November 10 and 12. The St. Andrews Landfill will be closed on November 10.
  • The Statewide Specialized Transportation Assistance Program (SSTAP) will not operate on November 11. SSTAP returns to normal operating hours on Tuesday, November 12.
  • All three branches of the St. Mary’s County Library (Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown and Lexington Park) will be closed November 11. The Lexington Park Library will be open from 1 – 5 p.m. on November 10.
  • The three Senior Activity Centers (Garvey, Loffler and Northern) will be closed November 11 and there will be no Home-Delivered Meal service.
  • The St. Clement’s Island Museum in Colton’s Point and the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum and Historic Park in Piney Point will be open November 11 from 12 – 4 p.m.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community.
