Three members of the College of Southern Maryland women’s cross country team ran their fastest 6K times of the season at the Hood College Open on October 19 in Frederick, Md.
Sophomore Sierra Walker finished 67th out of 135 runners in the women’s 6K race with a time of 27:54.3, making this her fastest 6K time this season by almost 50 seconds and her second-fastest time ever.
Freshman Brittney Douglas ran the race in 28:41.9, good enough to put her in 76th place.
Freshman Briana Douglas submitted her fastest 6K time of the season as well, finishing 93rd in 30:47.0, nearly a minute faster than her previous best time. “It was shocking to see Briana run her best time ever considering she was under the weather most of the week,” CSM head coach Ken Killion said.
Freshman Gabrielle Wilson remained consistent, again improving her best time by running roughly 25 seconds faster than the previous meet, finishing this race in 35:55.1. She finished in 118th place.
The Hawks’ next race will be the Region XX meet on October 26.
The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at [email protected]
Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
