UPDATE 10/21/2019 8:50 a.m.: A 40-year-old man was killed on Sunday in a single motor-vehicle collision in Leonardtown.
On Oct. 20, 2019, at approximately 5:39 pm, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office patrol units were dispatched to a single motor-vehicle collision with CPR in progress at 42297 St. Andrew’s Church Road in Leonardtown. Due to injuries sustained, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit was requested and responded to the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2003 Ford Expedition, operated by Quincy Ray Lowe, 34 of Leonardtown, was traveling south on St. Andrew’s Church Road when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The vehicle left the roadway, went into a ditch and struck a culvert. Lowe was transported by ambulance to an area shock trauma facility for non-incapacitating injuries.
A front-seat passenger was also in the Ford Expedition, identified as Terrence Dominic Hampton, 40 of Saint Leonard. Hampton was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown via ambulance with CPR in progress. Hampton was later pronounced deceased at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.
At this time, both speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or any events leading up to the collision and has not already provided a statement is asked to call Cpl. Brandon Foor at 301-475-4200, ext. *2265 or email email@example.com.
UPDATE 10/21/2019 6:00 a.m.: Per the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, the road was reopened at approx. 9:08 p.m. last night. We are awaiting further information from the Sheriff’s Office regarding the extent of the injuries, pending any notifications necessary.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
