Flu Vaccine Available for Citizens at Calvert County Health Department

News Release, Calvert County Public Information Office

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Oct. 11, 2019 – With flu season rapidly approaching, Calvert County citizens are urged to get a flu vaccine early.

The flu vaccine will be available for adults by walk-in at the Calvert County Health Department beginning Oct. 15 on Tuesdays from 8:30-11 a.m. and Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. Residents are encouraged to get vaccinated early, as supplies are limited.

The Calvert County Health Department is located at 975 Solomons Island Road North in Prince Frederick.

The cost is $20 for the standard vaccine and $55 for a high-dose vaccine (for ages 65 and older). Cash, check, Visa, MasterCard or Medicare Part B are accepted. The Health Department will bill private insurance or Medicaid as appropriate. Most general practitioners and pharmacies also provide the flu vaccine.

Getting an annual flu vaccine is the best way to prevent coming down with the flu. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends an annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months of age and older.

Influenza cases usually begin in Calvert County in October or November with the greatest number of cases occurring in January and February. In an average year, influenza is the eighth leading cause of death in the U.S. and leads to approximately 750,000 hospitalizations.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at davidhiggins@southernmarylandchronicle.com

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
