October 11 through November 22, 1-3 pm — “Stepping On”: The Calvert County Office on Aging is excited to bring citizens “Stepping On”, a seven-week falls prevention program for Calvert County seniors. The free program brings in experts from the community to teach strength and balance exercises along with other strategies to prevent falls. Class sessions will be held on Fridays, October 11 through November 22, from 1-3 pm at Calvert Pines Senior Center in Prince Frederick. Seating is limited, please call (410) 535-4606, ext. 121, to sign up.
October 11 – CHICKEN CORDON BLEU DINNER – The Sons of the American Legion Stallings Williams Post 206 will present their popular CHICKEN dinner from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The cost of $12 includes salad, sides, roll, and beverage. Dinner will be served in the Lower Level Dining Room located in the Post located at 3330 Chesapeake Beach Road, East on Route 260. Questions should be directed to 410-257-9878. October 12- COUNTRY DANCE. For a fun time, come to the Country Dance at the American Legion. If you can’t dance, teachers will be available to give instructions. One-hour lessons commence at 7:00 p.m. followed by dancing from 8:00 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. The modest price of $15.00 per person includes soft drinks or draft beer and light munchies. October 13, 14, & 15 – REVIVAL from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.at the Interdenominational Union Church. Pastor David and Guest Pastor Roberto will conduct a series of meetings to answer the questions “who we are?”, why are we?”, and “where we go from here?” in a serious search for God’s Will. October 23 – 31 is Red Ribbon Week — Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985.

2020 Census Preparation – As a normal part of the 2020 Census preparation and data collection process you will notice census takers in the neighborhood. Census field representatives are currently doing address canvassing for Calvert County and across the United States. The representatives also continue to collect information for the American Community Survey (ACS) and other ongoing surveys. The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account.
