Speed, driver error blamed in crash that killed Lusby woman this morning

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: On Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at approximately 9:04 a.m., deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Bureau and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the area of northbound MD Route 4 just south of MD Route 765 (HG Trueman Road north entrance) in Lusby, MD for a report of a single-vehicle collision.  

Upon arrival, it was determined that 2009 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on MD Route 4 and the driver lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees on the east side of MD Route 4.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Denisha Rashida Stephen, a 27-year-old female, of Lusby, MD.  Stephen succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.  

At this time, vehicle speed and driver error are major contributing factors to this collision.

This collision is under investigation by Cpl. V. Bortchevsky of the Crash Reconstruction Team.

UPDATE 12:25 p.m.: The Southern Maryland Chronicle has confirmed with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Kristen Leitch that today’s incident was a fatal crash.

Units are still reconstructing the crash and more information will be released after proper notifications have been made.


UPDATE 11:39 a.m.: The road is now open per the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office


UPDATE 9:35 a.m.: NB Rt4 Traffic @ Pardoe is being diverted at the State Park to go NB on HG Truman.


Solomons, MD 9:25 a.m.- A serious motor vehicle crash has closed northbound Route 4 and Pardoe Road, just south of the intersection.

Police are on the scene for a reported fatality in this incident. Expect an extended road closure for accident reconstruction.

Watch for emergency vehicles, personnel and expect significant delays.
