Firefighters injured in Waldorf blaze, Police Dept. on scene beforehand

By: David M. Higgins II

UPDATE 6:17: We have learned at least eight firefighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze. Firefighters from Charles County, Calvert County, St. Mary’s and PG County assisted.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has been requested to the scene. No further updates will be made unless a report is released unless an update is warranted.

Waldorf, MD- The Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department is currently responding to a house fire on Chamberlin Court in Waldorf, MD. The La Plata Volunteer Fire Department also reports they are on the scene.

Dispatch reported that the caller states the fire is coming through the roof. Units are on the scene and additional units have been called in to help.

Per the Charles County Volunteer Fire and Emergency Medical Services, a “MAYDAY” was called for a firefighter down in front of the residence. Command has also ordered an evacuation of the structure.

We have reports that multiple firefighters are hurt or injured at the scene, and that one jumped through rear door onto a deck.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle has learned that the Charles County Sheriff’s Office was originally on the scene before the fire call.

Watch for emergency vehicles, personnel and expect delays in the area for arriving units and staging.

This is a developing story.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
