ATF, SMCSO arrest District Heights man with 50 rd drum magazine, drugs

Leonardtown, MD- On September 17, 2019, members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were assisting the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), with a firearms investigation. 

Daiquan Malik Barnett, age 23 of District Heights

Daiquan Malik Barnett, age 23 of District Heights, was observed in possession of a firearm concealed in his waistband. Barnett was subsequently observed operating a vehicle in a drive-through located in the 22800 block of Three Notch Road in California.

ATF agents attempted to stop the vehicle, however, Barnett attempted to flee by backing out of the drive-through striking another vehicle.  Barnett then drove forward striking the vehicle with the ATF agents inside. Barnett was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.  Located in the vehicle were a handgun and a 50 round drum magazine.

Found on Barnett’s person was a quantity of a white powdery substance (suspected cocaine) as well as suspected crack cocaine.  Barnett has a prior felony conviction for Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

Barnett was arrested and charged with CDS: Distribution With a Firearm, CDS: Possession of Firearms, Firearm Possession-Criminal with Felony Conviction, Assault Second Degree-Law Enforcement Officer, and CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana. CASE# 53494-19
