La Plata, MD- One of my favorite local restaurants is Galazio in LaPlata. Galazio (which is the color of blue in Greece) offers fabulous, authentic Greek and Mediterranean specialties. The Gressis family has been serving amazing food at this former Pizza Hut for five years, and before that across the highway at Ouzo’s.

They have Greek appetizers such as Saganaki (flambé cheese…I love this one), Hummus, Spanakopita, and Calamarakia (Greek-style calamari). Traditional Greek entrees include Souvlaki platters (or wraps at lunch), Gyro (served with pita or added to a Greek or Caesar Salad), Moussaka, and Roasted Leg of Lamb. Mediterranean favorites include Pastitsio, Carbonara, Chicken Parmigiana, and Lobster Tail Ravioli.

The tzatziki sauce is amazing and is made with fresh local cucumbers. It can be an appetizer with pita or cucumbers or an accompaniment with meats. This is the best tzatziki I’ve ever tasted! You can even take a pint of it home with you!

The steaks are very popular because they are so good! I love the Filet Mignon which is succulent and tender and is served with a flavorful demi-glaze. An impressive steak is the Tomahawk Steak. It is a 38-ounce USDA Prime big bone-in ribeye infused with rosemary and finished with rosemary butter. It’s recommended for two to share and is it delightful! The Picanha Steak is another favorite. It is a Brazilian-cut of beef and is very flavorful. When

I get a steak (usually the filet), I get it with green beans or asparagus and Greek fries or mashed potatoes. The fries are crinkle-cut discs of deliciousness. They are crisp on the outside and tender on the inside…perfect!

Galazio also has great pizzas! They make the dough in-house and cook them in their outdoor brick oven. The brick oven gives the pizza a nice crust. On Tuesdays, they have 10-inch cheese pizzas for $5.00 (additional toppings are $1.45 each). This is for dine-in or carryout!

Galazio also offers keto and gluten-free selections.

The atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. The bar has a warm and cozy feel. They offer specialty cocktails, an extensive selection of wines, craft beers, and spirits. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drinks.

Galazio is a family-owned and family-friendly restaurant! In addition to their dining room and bar, they have outdoor seating. You can sit at tables under covered pergolas (with fans overhead) and enjoy the surrounding flowers and a gentle evening breeze.

Galazio is probably the restaurant I frequent most…I stop in several times a week to enjoy the food and meet with friends.

My favorite appetizers are: Saganaki, Sea Scallops, and Jumbo Mussels.

My favorite entrees are: Filet Mignon, Pastitsio, Carbonara, and Crab-Stuffed Flounder. And on Tuesdays…pizza!
