CANCELED: U.S. Naval Academy Band Navy Blues and Gold to perform July 19 in La Plata

UPDATE JULY 19, 2019: From the Town of La Plata-

We are sorry to say tonight’s concert with USNA Navy Blues and Gold has been cancelled due to the excessive heat in the forecast for this evening.    We hope you will join us next Friday night, July 26th at 7PM for a free concert by the Funkzilla on the lawn at La Plata Town Hall.

La Plata, MD- Established in 2019, Blues & Gold is the newest performing unit of the Naval Academy Band. Under the direction of Chief Musician Rory Cherry, Blues & Gold performs classic blues and blues-infused music by artists such as B.B. King and Muddy Waters and current hits by Joe Bonamassa and Eric Clapton. The group performs concerts in the community as well as for Academy outreach events.    

Please note military concerts are usually about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes due to their regulations.

U.S. Navy Band The Commodores

The weekly concerts take place from 7 pm to 9 pm on the lawn at La Plata Town Hall at 305 Queen Anne Street. Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs for sitting. Coolers are allowed, but no alcohol, please. Concessions are available from the Town’s food trailer located in the back of the parking lot; an ice cream truck is stationed there for your enjoyment.

A play area for children, the Kids’ Zone, allows parents to enjoy the concert while keeping an eye on the little ones. We ask that dogs and other pets be kept off of Town Hall grounds during Events.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community.
