Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for St. Mary’s County

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  St. Marys County in southern Maryland...

* Until noon EDT.

* At 1118 AM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Leonardtown,
  moving southeast at 30 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches
           to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as
           damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by
           downed trees. Localized power outages are possible.
           Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

* Locations impacted include...
  Lexington Park, Leonardtown, Piney Point, Tall Timbers, Saint
  Inigoes Creek, Cuckold Creek, Saint Marys City, Saint George
  Island, Greenwell State Park, Town Creek, Saint Marys River, White
  Point Beach, California, Patuxent River Naval Air Station,
  Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Bushwood, Clements, Abell and Valley
  Lee.

FLASH FLOOD WARNING

The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for… St. Marys County in southern Maryland… * Until 215 PM EDT. * At 1117 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen and amounts over three inches are likely. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly, especially in the Leonardtown, California, and Lexington Park areas. * Some locations that will experience flooding include… Lexington Park, Leonardtown, Piney Point, Tall Timbers, Saint Inigoes Creek, Saint Marys City, Saint George Island, Greenwell State Park, Saint Clements Bay, Town Creek, Saint Marys River, White Point Beach, Wicomico River, California, Golden Beach, Patuxent River Naval Air Station, Hollywood, Mechanicsville, Charlotte Hall and Benedict. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. A Flash Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. If you are in the warned area move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
