St. Charles, MD- On May 22, 2019, a former Environmental Science and Earth Systems Teacher at St. Charles High School; Ms. De’Etta Michelle Winemiller was involved in an alleged drug transaction. Ms. Winemiller is a resident of Great Mills, MD.

Maryland Case Search has Ms. Winemiller being charged on June 13, 2019, with two counts of Solicitation of Narcotics, 2 counts of possession of narcotics, and one count of attempted posssesion- not marijuana. Ms. Winemiller had her initial court appearance on June 20, 2019, and was given an unsecured bond of $1500.00, which was posted that day.

The incident became known to the public when an email was sent to parents of students at St. Charles High School by the principal, in which they state they were made aware of the accusations on May 22, 2019, and that Ms. Winemiller was removed from the school and placed on administrative leave. It is Charles County policy that when an accusation is made against staff, they are removed from he school and prohibited contact with any students.

The principal sent the email because even though it is summer break,” they felt it was important to notify” parents about the arrest.

Ms Winemiller’s case is scheduled for trial on August 6, 2019 at 8:45 a.m.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
