The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for… Northwestern St. Marys County in southern Maryland… Central Calvert County in southern Maryland… Southeastern Prince Georges County in central Maryland… East central Charles County in southern Maryland… * Until 645 PM EDT.

* At 603 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near La Plata, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

* Locations impacted include… Waldorf, La Plata, Prince Frederick, Sheridan Point, Hallowing Point, Breezy Point, Flag Harbor, Golden Beach, Saint Leonard, Wicomico, Huntingtown, Hughesville, Long Beach, Mechanicsville, Charlotte Hall, Aquasco, Calvert Beach, Bryantown, Benedict and Eagle Harbor.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community.
