News Release, Washington Spirit
Boyds, Md. (5/13/19) – Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe has been named the Westfield W-League’s goalkeeper of the year after helping lead Sydney FC claim the 2019 W-League title.
Bledsoe joined Sydney FC on loan during the NWSL offseason and appeared in 13 of the 14 matches for the club. This was her second stint with Sydney FC as she also played for the Australian club during the 2017-2018 W-League season, reaching the finals that same year as well. Bledsoe became only the third American goalkeeper to receive the accolade
In accepting the award, Bledsoe shared with excitement, “I’m honored to receive this award, especially with the high quality of goalkeeping this past season in the W-League. It’s a testament to the entire squad at Sydney FC and the Championship year we had.”
The Cincinnati native’s success abroad during the 2019 W-League season has only proven to escalate during the 2019 NWSL campaign. In the team’s four matches, the Spirit’s 2018 Most Valuable Player has already tallied 16 saves and two clean sheets and yet to concede a goal at home.
Bledsoe’s brilliant nine-save performance against Reign FC on May 4 earned her the NWSL Player of the Week award by the NWSL Media Association. Save of the Week honors was also picked up by Bledsoe in Matchweek four after a reaction save by the keeper stopped a shot from Reign FC’s Shea Groom just outside the six-yard-box and proving to be the game-saving goal.
The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
