Videos of recent Town meetings are now available for ease of access and viewing by the Public. Please visit our Town’s website and select the “Town Business” tab and then “Agendas & Meetings…” for access to Minutes and Recordings of the Town Council and various Committees.  All upcoming meetings will be available in video moving forward. Stay tuned for “live stream” options. 
 

State Highway Fishing Creek Bridge is nearing completion and is on schedule to be completed in mid June:  This week State Highway continues to work through the center wall barrier removal. Please expect intermittent lane closures.
 

UTILITY BILLING ONLINE PAYMENT SITE NOW OFFERS AUTO PAY FEATURE – If you are currently registered at our online payment portal just log onto your account.  On your home page you will see a new green radio button “Enroll in Auto Pay” towards the upper right corner.  Click on that button and follow the instructions to enroll in Auto Pay.  NOTE:  Your account will only be drafted in the months there is a balance due.  (Since the Town only bills quarterly, you will have 4 drafts per year.)  Please set your draft date early enough to avoid late charges; we suggest that you set the draft date between the first and the tenth day of the month.  To visit the online payments website, click here .

The Calvert County Department of Public Safety is hosting free monthly training sessions to better prepare citizens of all ages for emergencies. Training focuses on active shooter, performing CPR and assisting injured persons prior to professional help arriving.  For more information, click here .
 

The Chesapeake Beach Water Park is still taking sign-ups for Orientations for Lifeguards Only for the 2019 Summer Season.  Please visit our website and click on Employment to sign up for Orientation. To sign up as a lifeguard you must be 15 year of age by May 25, 2019.   Working at the Chesapeake Beach Water park is a wonderful way to spend your summer!

May 14 – 6:30 pm. “Horseshoe Crabs: Blue Bloods of the Bay.” Join Marek Topolski, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, as he discusses the natural history, biology, and importance of horseshoe crabs to the Bay ecosystem. Come to the Northeast Community Center to learn about Horseshoe Crab conservation efforts and how you can help stranded crabs this season. This Bayfront Park Nature Talk brought to you by the Town of Chesapeake Beach, Bayfront Park Committee.

May 18 from 9 am to 12 pm – Tri-County Memory Walk. Farming 4 Hunger, 6932 Serenity Farm Rd. Benedict, MD 20637. This event brings our community together to honor and remember those who have lost their lives to addiction and to plant seeds of hope for those who still suffer. There will be free refreshments, free helpful resources, a speaker, a seed planting, a serene farm walk, photos, families, and much more. For more information,click here .
 

May 22 – Drug Free Workplace Training at Harriet E. Brown Community Center. Calvert County business owners and managers are encouraged to attend this workshop to learn more about the benefits of a drug-free workplace. The workshop will provide information on the signs and symptoms of substance use, how an employee’s substance use disorder affects their work and the overall business, and the purpose and benefit of a drug-free workplace policy. Training is FREE. Breakfast and snacks will be provided. Registration is required. June 15 from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.  We are offering the first of three cruise dates for Summer 2019.  We will be welcoming Dr. Ralph Eshelman, who is a specialist in maritime history of the Chesapeake Bay, War of 1812 in the Chesapeake, geology and paleontology. As we cruise he will fill us in on many interesting things about the Bay we all love.  The cost is $32 per person. Children are welcome; there are no age limits, but these cruises are more suited for adults. Guests can bring small coolers with adult beverages, drinks and snacks. All cruises leave from the Rod ‘N’ Reel Dock located at 4165 Mears Avenue, Chesapeake Beach MD 20732. September 14 from 12 pm – 5pm. Taste the Beaches @ Kellam’s Field. Reserve your vendor space today!  The third annual Taste the Beaches event, attracting an estimated 2,000 attendees annually, is an outdoor festival with a community block party vibe; showcasing local businesses, restaurants, venues and attractions available in the Towns of Chesapeake Beach and North Beach. Event sponsored by the Town of Chesapeake Beach and the Town of North Beach. All vendors are welcome with priority given to food vendors in the Twin Beaches of Chesapeake Beach and North Beach.  Apply by emailing taste@chesapeakebeachmd.gov or Click Here to access the online form and enter code TTB2019 for a 20% discount for applications submitted by July 1, 2019.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account.
