From Principal Karen Vogel:
“Some people arrive and make such a beautiful impact on your life that you can barely remember what life was like without them.”
When she wrote these words, Author Anna Taylor was most certainly describing Kerrie McDermitt, the Teacher of the Year for the Patuxent Appeal Campus.
Mrs. McDermitt’s beautiful impact is evidenced daily in her ability to create a dynamic, student-centered learning environment. She embraces a personal belief in the infinite capabilities of each student who enters her second-grade classroom and recognizes that ALL children possess the desire to succeed.
Mrs. McDermitt expertly uses assessment data to identify the strengths and areas of challenge demonstrated by individual students. Whether
• empowering her students to take ownership of their own learning;
• engaging parents to become active partners in their child’s education;
• searching for that special strategy to unlock a child’s understanding, or
• sparking the confidence of the struggling learner,
Kerrie approaches each challenge with unending passion and dedication.
Kerrie, thank you for so positively impacting the lives of PAC students and staff. Congratulations on this tremendous honor!
