CSM FAFSA Workshop. 2:30 p.m., May 16. College of Southern Maryland (CSM), La Plata Campus, Administration Building (AD), Room 110. The college’s Financial Assistance Department provides one-on-one assistance to members of the community completing a Free Application
for Federal Aid (FAFSA), the primary application for federal, state and institutional financial aid programs. This workshop is offered every third Thursday of the month. CSM Spring Commencement Ceremonies. 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. (two ceremonies), May 17, College of Southern Maryland (CSM), La Plata Campus, Physical Education Center (PE Building), 8730 Mitchell Road, La Plata. The college will host two separate ceremonies, which are dependent on the degree or certificate the graduate is receiving. The 10 a.m. event will honor students receiving certificates, associate of arts degrees and associate of arts in teaching degrees. The 3 p.m. event will honor students receiving associate of science degrees, associate of applied science degrees, associate of science in engineering degrees and workforce development certificates. Free, but tickets provided to graduates are required. CSM conducts a bag check at the commencement ceremonies. Please note that everyone may be subject to a bag check before entry. Visitors are encouraged to leave large bags, purses, diaper bags, and backpacks in their vehicles or at home as these will be subject to the bag check process at the door. CSM Begins Code Green Fridays. May 24-Aug. 9, College of Southern Maryland (CSM), all campuses. In an effort to decrease energy costs during the summer months, CSM will be running a Code Green initiative starting May 24 and continuing each Friday through Aug. 9. During Code Green days, most CSM buildings and services will close at 1:30 p.m. on Fridays and remain closed throughout the weekend. CSM Closed for Memorial Day Weekend. May 25-27. All campuses will be closed May 25 to 27 for Memorial Day weekend. www.csmd.edu.
CSM Campuses Closed for Professional Development Day. 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m., May 31. All campuses of the College of Southern Maryland, with the exception of the St. Charles Children’s Learning Center at the College of Southern Maryland, will be closed to allow employees to participate in a day of professional development. In addition, all campuses will remain closed after 1:30 p.m. for Code Green Friday. www.csmd.edu.
CSM’s campuses are accessible to patrons with disabilities. Audio description for the visually impaired and sign language interpretation for the hearing impaired are available with a minimum two-week advance notice. The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.
To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account.
