St. Mary’s Men’s Lacrosse to Play in HEADstrong Game Against York on Saturday

News Release, St. Mary’s College of Maryland

ST. MARY’S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s lacrosse team will take part in the HEADstrong game this Saturday (Apr. 6) when they host York (Pa.) College at Jamie L. Roberts Stadium. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m.

The HEADstrong foundation was started by Nick Colleluori, a student-athlete on the Hofstra men’s lacrosse team who began the organization while battling non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2005. Colleluori passed away in 2006, but the foundation, led by his family, staff and volunteers, continues to make an impact in the battle against cancer with the help of the lacrosse community. The foundation was established in 2007 and has raised 14.7 million dollars to assist 15,952 patients and their families. This game is especially important to St. Mary’s head men’s lacrosse coach, Jason Childs as he battled and defeated cancer.

“After living through hearing the words ‘You Have Cancer’, I knew I wanted to be involved in making a difference in the lives of those people affected by this terrible disease,” Childs said. “Headstrong is an amazing organization that benefits the people affected by Cancer, not research. You can see where you funds are going to and read their stories online. Headstrong has transcended lacrosse and has now reached so many people, and I am so thankful I am here today to just help fight for the cause.”

York College, led by coach Childs’ brother, Brandon Childs, will also be participating in the event to raise funds for the organization.

The Seahawks are currently 8-4 overall and 1-0 in Capital Athletic Conference action.
