SMAR awards 2018 Production awards in ceremony

News Release, Southern Maryland Association of Realtors

Waldorf, MD – Thank you to all who attended SMAR’s Annual Awards Recognition Ceremony on Wednesday, March 6th, to honor SMAR’s 2018 Production Award Winners.  We were excited to have our largest turnout in years! Almost 500 were present to recognize their peers for their accomplishments, networking, buffet dinner and dancing. We brought back our ever popular photo booth (props included!). SMAR President Judy Szynborski was on hand to give a quick association update on various items – including broker outreach, committee updates and various building improvements to the Realtor® Center.

In addition to SMAR’s Production Award Winners, Sandy Curtis was recognized as SMAR’s Newest REALTOR® Emeritus member. Established by the National Association of REALTORS®, the REALTOR® Emeritus program recognizes members who have held membership in the National Association of REALTORS® for at least 40 years.  Sandy began working in real estate in June 1978 while she was off for the summer from teaching. Over the years, she has worked with three different builders. She is currently a Realtor® with Residential Plus Real Estate Services in White Plains. She has enjoyed helping families find their dream home and loves to see many relaxed, smiling faces at settlement.

Congratulations to our Rookie of the Year Winners:

  • Calvert County – Sherri Verdon with RE/MAX 100
  • Charles County – Adam Chambers with RE/MAX 100

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
