Calvert County Winter Sports registration now open

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Nov. 13, 2018 – Stay active this winter with indoor sports offered through the Calvert County Department of Parks & Recreation. Take it to the hoop with basketball or take it to the mat with youth wrestling.

Adult basketball is open to players ages 18 and older, and excludes high school students. The team registration fee is $600 and registrants are in charge of forming their own teams. Games are played at the Northeast Community Center on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays starting Dec. 4. For a registration/roster form, please email sports@calvertcountmd.gov. The deadline for registration is Nov. 26.

Youth basketball registration is open now through Nov. 28 or until divisions are full. Children from second grade to 12th grade are eligible. The cost for the first family member is $80. Each additional family member is $75. Volunteer coaches are needed in all grade divisions. If interested, please contact the Department of Parks & Recreation at sports@calvertcountmd.gov. Do not delay; youth basketball divisions fill up fast.

Youth wrestling registration is open now through Dec. 31. Children ages 4-14 are eligible. Age eligibility is determined as of Nov. 12, 2018. Two area clubs are offered this season: Rampage Wrestling in north/central Calvert County and the Patuxent Panthers Wrestling Club in the south/central area.

Information on registration for Rampage Wrestling is available at www.rampagewrestling.net. Rampage offers two levels of competition. The recreation level is $125 per child and the elite level is $300. Practices will be held at St. Nicholas Church in Huntingtown.

Registration for Patuxent Panthers Wrestling Club is taken through the Calvert County Parks & Recreation Department. The cost is $80 for the first family member and $75 for each additional family member. Practice will be held at Patuxent High School. Questions should be directed to sports@calvertcountymd.gov

All wrestling participants must possess a current 2018/19 USA Wrestling membership card. Please visit www.usawmembership.com to register for a card before the first practice.

Parks will switch over to winter hours beginning Nov. 12 and Dunkirk District, Hallowing and Cove Point parks will close at 6 p.m. daily until March 16, 2019. BGE, Twin Shields and Solomons Town Center park fields are closed through March 15.
