Ribbon Cutting to be held at Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter

Shelter to Open Thursday, Nov. 1

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Oct. 9, 2018 – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will usher in a new era for the humane treatment of animals Tuesday, Oct. 9, as it officially cuts the ribbon on the new Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter in Prince Frederick. The ceremony will be held at 3 p.m., rain or shine, at 5055 Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick. The shelter will officially open in November.

“We are excited about the anticipated opening of the Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter and are looking forward to assisting animals in our community,” said Animal Shelter Division Chief Crystal Dowd. “This ribbon cutting ceremony brings us one step closer to providing much-needed services to county residents and allows us to fulfill our division’s mission and the vision of Linda Kelley.”

The new 13,000-square-foot facility will offer an estimated 200 animals a safe and humane space complete with fenced-in play yards, cat condos, a cat patio, indoor and outdoor meet-and-greet areas for dogs, grooming and bathing space, an exotic animal room and a 1,380-square-foot barn to house livestock should there be an increased need. The facility is named after former county commissioner and animal rights advocate Linda L. Kelley.

Details on the shelter are available at www.CalvertCountyMd.gov/AnimalShelter. For information on Calvert County Government, visitwww.CalvertCountyMd.gov or like us on Facebook.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at davidhiggins@southernmarylandchronicle.com

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
