Ronan Earns CAC Field Hockey Player of the Week Honors

Fredericksburg, Va. – Sophomore captain Meghan Ronan (Odenton, Md./Arundel) garnered the Capital Athletic Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week award for the week of September 23. This is Ronan’s first-ever such honor of her career.

The 5-5 defender/midfielder picked up CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after helping the St. Mary’s College of Maryland field hockey team to a 1-1 record last week. The Seahawks opened up with a tough 3-2 loss to Shenandoah University before rebounding with a 6-0 shutout of Wilson College.

Ronan was part of a St. Mary’s defensive unit, which posted a shutout win, allowed only 14 shots (six on goal), and gave up three goals in two games, including holding Wilson to just one shot on goal. She contributed offensively as well as Ronanscored the team’s first goal in their loss to Shenandoah.

St. Mary’s currently ranks third in the conference in goals against average (1.45) and fourth in saves (29) and save percentage (.763).

The Seahawks (2-4) will be back in action on Wednesday, September 26, traveling to Chestertown to take on in-state foe, Washington College, in non-conference action under the lights at 7:00 p.m.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at davidhiggins@southernmarylandchronicle.com

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
