Hoyer statement on Republican Health Care sabotage

Despite failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) last year, Republicans in Congress and the Trump Administration have sought to undermine the law. From deliberately increasing premiums in the GOP tax scam to cutting the open enrollment period by half, Republicans are actively making it harder for middle class Americans to access affordable, quality health care.
This week, Republican increased their sabotage of the Affordable Care Act has hit new levels. Not only has the Trump Administration refused to defend the lawand its protections for people with pre-existing conditions in federal court, but they recently froze payments for one of the ACA’s market stabilization programs, which will further drive up premiums in 2019 and inject instability into health insurance markets. On top of that, the Administration announced plans to slash funding for navigators, making it more difficult for Americans to enroll in health coverage. Instead of improving access to health care families across our nation, the Republicans are undermining the law that expanded coverage to millions, brought down costs, and decreased the uninsured rate in our country.
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, more than 400,000 Marylanders gained access to affordable health care while the cost of health care was significantly reduced for thousands more. Instead of sabotaging the law, Congress ought to make it work better. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to expand access to affordable, quality health care for all Americans.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at davidhiggins@southernmarylandchronicle.com

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
