Ashland, Va. – The St. Mary’s College of Maryland baseball team stepped out of Capital Athletic Conference play Thursday afternoon, traveling south to face No. 3 Randolph-Macon College. St. Mary’s (10-17) dropped a 14-3 non-conference decision to Randolph-Macon (27-4-1) as the Seahawks were limited to seven hits.

How It Happened

  • Randolph-Macon jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as both runs scored on Joseph Tuzzolo’s single to right field.
  • The Seahawks answered with two of their own in the top of the second as junior outfielder Dakota Merritt‘s (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) brought in both senior catcher Sean Goodie (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun), who hit a leadoff single, and junior infielder Matt Ansaldi (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron), who knocked in a single in the sixth spot.
  • R-MC then scored eight unanswered runs to take a 10-2 lead after six innings of play.
  • St. Mary’s notched its third and final run of the game in the seventh as Ansaldi cracked a leadoff triple to centerfield and then came home on first-year Connor Coursey‘s (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) sacrifice fly to leftfield.
  • The Yellow Jackets tacked on four more in their half of the seventh, scoring runs on a fielder’s choice, a Jeff Butler single, and another two-run single by Tuzzolo.
