County’s top scientists showcase knowledge and compete for a spot at International Science Fair

More than 400 secondary students from public and private schools will share their research in the disciplines of science, math, and engineering at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Regional Science and Engineering Expo at North County High School on March 3, 2018.

Hundreds of awards, prizes, and incentives have been provided by organizations such as Educational Systems Federal Credit Union, Defense Spectrum Organization, Anne Arundel Community College, Intel, US Air Force, the US Navy/US Marine Corps Office of Naval Research, and the Water Environment Federation. The Grand Prize winner(s) will have the opportunity to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in May 2018. More than $4 million in awards and scholarships will be awarded at Intel ISEF.

Students will discuss their research and communicate their findings with judges from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 3, 2018, at North County High School. Research projects will be available for public viewing from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Winners of the regional expo will be announced during the awards ceremony on March 8, 2018, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at North County High School. The expo and awards ceremony are open to the public.

The Southern Maryland Chronicle is a local, small business entrusted to provide factual, unbiased reporting to the Southern Maryland Community. While we look to local businesses for advertising, we hope to keep that cost as low as possible in order to attract even the smallest of local businesses and help them get out to the public. We must also be able to pay employees(part-time and full-time), along with equipment, and website related things. We never want to make the Chronicle a “pay-wall” style news site.

To that end, we are looking to the community to offer donations. Whether it’s a one-time donation or you set up a reoccurring monthly donation. It is all appreciated. All donations at this time will be going to furthering the Chronicle through hiring individuals that have the same goals of providing fair, and unbiased news to the community. For now, donations will be going to a business PayPal account I have set-up for the Southern Maryland Chronicle, KDC Designs. All business transactions currently occur within this PayPal account. If you have any questions regarding this you can email me at

Thank you for all of your support and I hope to continue bringing Southern Maryland the best news possible for a very long time. — David M. Higgins II
